Steve Etienne Etches Penmen

Well that sounds complex - so here, read this Artists BIO…

Born in Sydney and shaped by two decades in Oxford before making Tasmania home, Stephen McNee has always been drawn to the detail others pass by.

His working life was spent in finance management and systems—finding patterns, solving problems and bringing order to complexity. Alongside it ran another practice. Under the name Etches Penmen, photographs, words and sketches gradually became a second language: one less interested in certainty than possibility.

His work begins with the camera but rarely ends there. Landscapes become abstractions. Urban fragments reveal unexpected rhythms. Light, shadow, colour and the occasional human trace are cropped, layered and reimagined until something familiar begins to feel quietly unfamiliar.

Whether working with pixels or poetry, he hopes viewers experience a small interruption—a pause, a second look, perhaps a playful tilt of the head—as another way of seeing, slowly comes into focus.

OR … just in brief - a summary - a synopsis!

Working from photographs, I, Etches Penmen transforms landscapes, architecture and overlooked details into images that sit somewhere between memory and imagination. Alongside them, my poems (Thomas Poe) offer another way in to the same questions.

His work isn’t about finding what is there. It’s about noticing what almost was … and adding some orange if he can!
